Shahla and Farhad met while graduate students in the US in the 1960s. Currently, Shahla is a children’s librarian and Farhad is a civil engineer. They have two children.
“We got married in 1973. I was a student at the University of Pittsburg. I had just started my doctorate degree. He just flew to Pittsburg without telling me….He wanted to marry me and take me back to Iran…We quickly got married and we left. I stopped my studying.
